Pomeranian griffins are incredibly proud creatures, with the head and wings of an eagle and the body and paws of a lion. Legends of their appearance date back to the Middle Ages. Supposedly, a knight belonging to one of the Pomeranian princes encountered the first griffin in the forest while hunting – and the ruler was so taken with the creature that he made it his symbol. Since then, griffins have made their home in Pomerania and are still present today – in the spaces of cities and towns, in coats of arms, paintings, and sculptures. This book not only vividly recounts their appearance but also presents all the griffins in the coats of arms of Pomeranian cities. This is a book that every child in Western Pomerania should read!
